What is an InBody scan? The number the scale can't give you.

An InBody scan is a one-minute body-composition test: stand on the scanner, hold the handles, and it estimates how much of you is fat, muscle and water, by body segment. F45 Training Cooper City uses it because the bathroom scale can't tell muscle from fat, and for anyone who trains, that's the whole story. Members get two free scans a year; your first class is free.

Why the scale lies to people who train

Start training four times a week and two things happen at once: you add muscle and you lose fat. Muscle is denser than fat, so the scale can sit still, or even go up, while your body changes in exactly the way you wanted. People quit at week six because the scale said nothing happened. The scan says what happened.

It reads three things worth caring about: body fat percentage, skeletal muscle mass, and a segmental breakdown showing muscle in each arm, each leg and the trunk. That last one is useful for spotting an imbalance a coach can fix on the floor.

How to get a clean reading

  • Same conditions every time. Morning before class, before a big meal, normally hydrated.
  • No alcohol the night before, and not straight after a sauna, shower or a hard session; water shifts move the numbers.
  • Bare feet and hands on the sensors, standing still for the minute.
  • Every four to six weeks. Daily readings bounce; a month’s trend is the signal.

The scan passes a tiny current you can’t feel. If you have a pacemaker or another implanted electronic device, or you’re pregnant, tell the coach; they’ll skip it, and you should check with your doctor before using any body-composition scanner.

How the studio uses it

Two ways. Members get two free scans a year, booked at the desk: one to set a starting point, one to check the change. And the 45-Day Challenge (October 5 to November 18, 2026) uses a starting scan against a finishing one to decide its top tier: three points of body fat down while holding muscle.

If you’re training for a body-composition goal, read F45 for weight loss or F45 for building muscle, whichever is closer to yours. If you haven’t taken a class yet, the first one is free: book below and ask about a scan when you’re in.

InBody questions

What is an InBody scan?

A body-composition test. You stand on the scanner holding two handles for about a minute, and it estimates how much of your weight is fat, muscle and water, and where on the body it sits. It's the number that matters when you train, because the bathroom scale can't tell muscle from fat.

Does F45 Cooper City have an InBody scanner?

Yes. Members get two free InBody scans a year; book them at the front desk. The studio also uses it for the 45-Day Challenge, where the top tier is judged on a starting scan against a finishing one.

How do I prepare for an accurate scan?

Same conditions each time. Morning is easiest: before a workout, before a big meal, normally hydrated, no alcohol the night before, and not straight after a shower or sauna. Bare feet and hands on the sensors. Repeating the same setup matters more than any single detail.

What do the numbers mean?

The three worth watching are body fat percentage, skeletal muscle mass and the segmental breakdown, which shows muscle by arm, leg and trunk. Weight on its own can stay flat for weeks while body fat drops and muscle goes up; that's a good scan, not a stalled one.

How often should I scan?

Every four to six weeks is enough to see real change without chasing noise. Day-to-day readings move with water and food; the trend over a month is the signal.

Is it safe? Can anyone use it?

It passes a very small electrical current you can't feel. Manufacturers advise that people with a pacemaker or other implanted electronic medical device don't use it, and anyone who is pregnant should check with their doctor first. Tell the coach if either applies and they'll skip the scan.
